The story
Twelve-year-old Jay draws tomorrow. Every night he sketches what the next day will bring, and every morning it comes true: the rain, the pop quiz, the dog that gets loose on Maple Street. He keeps it a secret from everyone except his little brother, Mo.
Then their grandmother's old sketchbook turns up in the attic, full of drawings of a future that never happened. The brothers set out to learn what she gave up to change it, and what Jay is willing to give up to change his own. It's the two of them against the world, and the world keeps drawing back.
What it's about
Seeing what's coming before anyone else can, and what that costs. Doing the right thing when no one is watching. Family that stands with you, and the people we lose on the way to becoming who we are.
For readers
A family adventure for ages 9 and up, and for the grown-ups reading along. Warm, funny, a little magical, and built to be read out loud.
From the writer's notes
"Get lost in the story. Live, don't write. Go for the heart of the reader."
